Sometimes doing a little good is as simple as tapping “yes” at the checkout screen.

Nashville’s locally owned grocery chain Turnip Truck Natural Market has launched a new initiative that lets shoppers round up their purchase totals to support The Store, a nonprofit grocery program helping families facing food insecurity across Middle Tennessee.

Here’s how it works: when you check out at any Turnip Truck location, you’ll be asked if you want to round your total up to the nearest dollar. The extra change gets donated directly to The Store, the choice-based food market founded by Brad Paisley and Kimberly Williams-Paisley.

The idea may seem small — a few cents here, maybe a dollar there — but those tiny donations add up quickly. In fact, the program notes that just $1.49 can provide a meal, while larger donations can help feed individuals and families for weeks or even months.

The funds raised through the program will be used to purchase groceries for The Store’s shelves, helping the organization provide healthy food to households referred through more than 50 partner agencies.

Unlike traditional food pantries, The Store operates like a regular grocery market where guests can shop for the foods their families actually want and need — a model designed to preserve dignity while expanding access to nutritious food.

For Turnip Truck, the partnership fits neatly with its mission. The Nashville grocer, founded in 2001, has long focused on connecting the community with local, natural, and organic foods while supporting regional farmers and producers.

And now, thanks to a simple checkout question, your grocery run might help stock someone else’s pantry too.

So the next time the cashier asks if you’d like to round up, those extra cents might go a lot further than you think.
